Quick answer: For industrial battery systems, Stryten Energy builds the Absolyte 50G and 90G series, formerly GNB Absolyte GP, as six cell 12V modules: 6-50G05 (104 Ah) to 6-50G13 (312 Ah) and 6-90G07 (256 Ah) to 6-90G15 (608 Ah). The industrial cell types are 50G-05, 50G-07, 50G-09 and 50G-13, and 90G-07 to 90G-15. Ratings are 8 hour to 1.75 volts per cell at 25 C, from Stryten SE1087. The 50G single cells with an S suffix, 50G05S to 50G27S, are rail cells only and are never mixed into an industrial battery system.

Key points

  • CPBS offers nine 50G and 90G industrial modules: four 6-50G modules and five 6-90G modules, all six cells at 12V nominal, per Stryten Energy SE1087.
  • The industrial 50G cell types are 50G-05, 50G-07, 50G-09 and 50G-13. The industrial 90G cell types are 90G-07, 90G-09, 90G-11, 90G-13 and 90G-15.
  • The seven 50G single cells, 50G05S to 50G27S, are for rail purposes only and cannot be combined into an industrial battery system configuration.
  • A 6-90G module is deeper than the 6-50G module with the same suffix: 23.56 inches against 16.22 inches, and 256 Ah against 152 Ah on the 07 size.
  • Stryten Absolyte AGP continues the 50G and 90G numbering. Confirm the exact current module and its fit with the specialist before ordering.

Request a 50G or 90G quoteSend the number, the cell count and the application

One request asks for “60 cells 50G-07 stackable.” Another quotes a 6-90G11 off a rack label. A third gives only “90G-15, 608 Ah at 8 hours,” and a fourth asks for 50G27S. All four are Absolyte 50G or 90G numbers, and each one has to be read correctly, industrial or rail, module and count, before anyone can order.

The Absolyte 50G and 90G series come from Stryten Energy (formerly GNB Industrial Power, a division of Exide Technologies). They are the smaller and mid capacity families in the Absolyte line, used in telecom, utility, solar and switchgear battery plant. The Absolyte GP line continues today as Stryten Absolyte AGP, and the current Stryten literature carries the same 50G and 90G numbering.

This reference sets out every 50G and 90G industrial module and cell type CPBS offers, the capacity, size and weight of each module, the runtime figures at 1.75 volts per cell, how to read a 50G or 90G number off an RFQ. The numbering scheme across all three Absolyte families is explained in the Absolyte GP model number guide, and the largest family has its own page on Absolyte 100G part numbers. This page goes deep on 50G and 90G only.

Critical Power Battery Solutions (CPBS) is the battery division of Advanced Technical Services Inc., founded in 1981 and ISO 9001 certified, and an authorized Stryten Energy reseller. Tom Kierna, who has more than 40 years in industrial batteries including 15 across GNB and Stryten, confirms every order.

CPBS is consulting based: it supplies and sizes batteries and does not perform on site installation, commissioning, testing or maintenance. Installation practice for the current line is covered in how Stryten Absolyte AGP is installed, for the contractor doing the work.

Who uses Absolyte 50G and 90G numbers, and what does each reader need?

Anyone holding a 50G or 90G number who has to turn it into a correct order: the engineer who specifies the string, the manager who keeps the plant running, and the buyer who issues the RFQ. Each reader needs something different from the same tables.

  • Telecom network infrastructure managers with aging GNB strings at central offices, cell sites and radio plant, who need the current Stryten module number and its size before a cut over.
  • Utility substation and switchgear engineers specifying DC control batteries, who need capacity at a stated rate and end voltage, module dimensions and the seismic qualification.
  • Solar, off grid and alternative energy system designers, who need module weights and capacity by the string. Off grid strings are covered in the guide to replacing GNB Absolyte batteries in solar and off grid systems.
  • Data center and facility teams responsible for DC battery plant, who need to confirm an existing string before the replacement is budgeted.
  • Rail signal and communications teams, the one group the 50G S single cells are made for.
  • Procurement staff, bid specialists, distributors and resellers quoting a project, including international tenders, who need the number read correctly before they commit a price.

If the question is whether the string is failing rather than what the number means, start with the guide to dating GNB Absolyte batteries. This page starts once the decision to buy is made and the number needs reading.

How are the Absolyte 50G and 90G series organized?

For industrial use, the 50G and 90G series are six cell 12V modules built from 2V cells. Separately, a set of 50G single cells with an S suffix serves rail applications only. That gives two industrial groups, four 6-50G modules and five 6-90G modules, and one rail only group of seven 50G S single cells.

Three terms carry the whole page:

  • Industrial cell type: the 2V industrial cell, written with a dash, such as 50G-07 or 90G-11. It names the cell and its capacity step, and six of them make the matching module.
  • Module number: the cell type with a 6 in front, such as 6-50G07. The 6 is the number of cells in the steel tray, which makes the module 12V nominal.
  • Rail single cell: a standalone 2V 50G cell for rail purposes, written with an S suffix, such as 50G27S.

Two industrial module groups and a separate rail only group.

What is the capacity, size and weight of every 50G and 90G industrial module?

Stryten Energy SE1087 publishes nine 50G and 90G modules with their 8 hour capacity, stacking dimensions and weight. All nine are six cell 12V modules for industrial battery systems. Ah is the 8 hour rate to 1.75 volts per cell at 25 C. Dimensions are in inches; depth includes the 3 inch module cover. Weight is unpacked, in pounds.

Module Cell type Cells Volts Ah (8 hr) Length in Height in Depth in Weight lbs
6-50G05 50G-05 6 12 104 17.19 8.53 16.22 157
6-50G07 50G-07 6 12 152 21.69 8.53 16.22 209
6-50G09 50G-09 6 12 208 26.19 8.53 16.22 252
6-50G13 50G-13 6 12 312 35.19 8.53 16.22 356
6-90G07 90G-07 6 12 256 21.69 8.53 23.56 316
6-90G09 90G-09 6 12 344 26.19 8.53 23.56 396
6-90G11 90G-11 6 12 432 30.69 8.53 23.56 477
6-90G13 90G-13 6 12 520 35.19 8.53 23.56 557
6-90G15 90G-15 6 12 608 39.69 8.59 23.56 637

The 6-50G modules run from 104 Ah to 312 Ah and the 6-90G modules from 256 Ah to 608 Ah. The heaviest is the 6-90G15 at 637 lbs unpacked. Which module a site needs depends on the load and the runtime, covered in the guide to Absolyte AGP specifications by application.

Which Absolyte 50G and 90G numbers are industrial, and which are rail only?

The industrial numbers are 50G-05, 50G-07, 50G-09 and 50G-13, 90G-07 to 90G-15, and their six cell modules. The 50G numbers ending in S are rail single cells only. The two groups are separate product lines.

Industrial cell type Industrial six cell module 8 hour Ah
50G-05 6-50G05 104
50G-07 6-50G07 152
50G-09 6-50G09 208
50G-13 6-50G13 312
90G-07 6-90G07 256
90G-09 6-90G09 344
90G-11 6-90G11 432
90G-13 6-90G13 520
90G-15 6-90G15 608

This split decides most 50G orders. A request for 50G27S is a request for rail single cells, and there is no industrial 50G-27. A request for 50G-09 is industrial and is supplied in the 6-50G09 module; there is no 50G09S rail cell. Every 90G number is industrial. Tom Kierna, CPBS, reads every 50G and 90G request this way before it is quoted, so the right product and the right count are quoted the first time.

Two separate lineups: industrial 50G and 90G cell types with their six cell modules, and the rail only 50G S single cells
Industrial cell types 50G-05, 50G-07, 50G-09 and 50G-13 and 90G-07 to 90G-15 come in six cell modules. 50G05S to 50G27S are rail only.

What are the Absolyte 50G S rail single cells?

The 50G S cells are seven standalone 2V cells, 50G05S to 50G27S, for rail purposes only. They cannot be combined into an industrial battery system configuration. Stryten Energy publishes their ratings in SE1088 under the Absolyte AGPS name. Ah is the 8 hour rate to 1.75 volts per cell at 25 C and weight is in pounds.

Rail single cell Volts Ah (8 hr) Weight lbs
50G05S 2 104 32
50G07S 2 152 39
50G11S 2 264 50
50G13S 2 312 58
50G15S 2 368 66
50G19S 2 472 91
50G27S 2 680 124

The S suffix is how CPBS keeps the two groups apart on a quote. A rail signal string is quoted in S cells; a telecom, utility, solar or data center string is quoted in 6-50G or 6-90G modules.

What is the difference between 50G and 90G?

A 6-90G module is deeper and carries more capacity than the 6-50G module with the same suffix. Modules with the same suffix share length and height: the 6-50G07 and the 6-90G07 are both 21.69 inches long and 8.53 inches high. The 6-90G07 is 23.56 inches deep against 16.22 inches, rated 256 Ah against 152 Ah at the 8 hour rate, and weighs 316 lbs against 209 lbs.

The same pattern holds on the 09 and 13 sizes, the other suffixes published in both module families: the 6-50G09 and 6-90G09 are both 26.19 inches long, and the 6-50G13 and 6-90G13 are both 35.19 inches long, with the 90G module deeper in each pair. Where space allows the deeper module, a 90G string reaches a given capacity in fewer modules.

What runtime does each 50G and 90G industrial cell type give at 1.75 volts per cell?

Stryten Energy SE1087 publishes constant current in amperes per cell for each industrial cell type to a stated end voltage at 25 C. The table shows three rates to 1.75 volts per cell for the nine industrial cell types. The published rates assume properly sized connectors.

Cell type 8 hr amps 1 hr amps 15 min amps
50G-05 13 58 133
50G-07 19 87 199
50G-09 26 116 266
50G-13 39 175 399
90G-07 32 151 264
90G-09 43 201 353
90G-11 54 251 441
90G-13 65 302 529
90G-15 76 352 618

The rate changes the answer: a 50G-07 cell delivers 19 amps for 8 hours and 87 amps for 1 hour to the same end voltage, which is why every rating on this page states its rate and end voltage. Sizing a string to a load profile is done against the full manufacturer tables, not this extract.

The same cell delivers very different current at different rates, so the rate is always stated.

How do you read a 50G or 90G number on an RFQ?

Check for an S suffix first, then read the module number or cell type, count the cells and check the rating. These eight steps cover the 50G and 90G requests CPBS sees.

  1. Check for an S suffix. 50G05S to 50G27S are rail single cells. They are quoted for rail use only.
  2. Find whether you have a module number or a cell type. 6-50G07 is a module number; 50G-07 is the industrial cell type inside it.
  3. Read the 6 prefix. A 6 in front is a six cell 12V module. A 90G number on its own is the cell inside a 6-90G module.
  4. Count cells, not units. Worked example: 60 cells of 50G-07 is 120 V nominal, the same cell count as ten 6-50G07 modules. Confirm with CPBS whether the order is cells or modules.
  5. Flag sizes with no industrial version. Worked example: an industrial request for 50G27 has no industrial match, because that size exists only as the 50G27S rail cell. CPBS confirms the application with the buyer before anything is quoted.
  6. Check the rating. Compare the 8 hour Ah with the module table. 90G-15 at 608 Ah matches the 6-90G15 module.
  7. Note the case and the site. SE1087 lists UL94 V-0 flame retardant polypropylene as standard on AGP modules. Note any seismic requirement.
  8. Send the details. Send CPBS the number as written, the cell count, industrial or rail, the arrangement, the application and the ship to location.
Two worked RFQ examples: 60 cells of 50G-07 is the same cell count as ten 6-50G07 modules; 50G27S is a rail only single cell
Check for an S suffix first. Then count cells.

Where the number on the paperwork is a legacy GNB number that needs matching, the GNB Absolyte part number cross reference explains how the confirmed match is worked out. For documentation and approvals in the wider buying process, see the Absolyte battery procurement guide.

How do you check an Absolyte 50G or 90G label against the published rating?

Read the number, the voltage and the 8 hour Ah off the label, then match them to the module table. Four checks confirm what is installed before anything is ordered.

  1. Read the number. Find the 50G or 90G number on the label, with any 6 prefix or S suffix exactly as printed.
  2. Read the voltage. A 12V rating on a six cell steel tray points to an industrial 6-50G or 6-90G module.
  3. Match the 8 hour Ah. Compare the label rating with the published value: 608 Ah is the 6-90G15 module, 312 Ah is the 6-50G13 module.
  4. Photograph and send. Send CPBS one photo of the label and one of the full string, so the product and the count are confirmed together.

How are 50G and 90G modules stacked, and are they seismic rated?

Absolyte AGP modules are seismic qualified to 1997 UBC, 2005 IEEE 693 and 2018 IBC / 2016 CBC in certain configurations, and they stack horizontally. The allowed stack height for a given cell type and seismic zone is confirmed by the specialist for the site.

Exact module number, stack and rack arrangement, terminal plates, seismic configuration and rating are confirmed with the specialist before ordering. Domestic lead time is typically 8 to 10 weeks.

Does Stryten still make the Absolyte 50G and 90G series?

Yes. Stryten Energy publishes the 50G and 90G modules in SE1087, dated March 2023, and the 50G single cells in SE1088, dated February 2023, under the same numbering. The brand changed from GNB to Stryten; the background is in the history of Absolyte from GNB to Stryten, and supply questions are answered in the guide to whether GNB batteries are still available.

Stryten Absolyte AGP continues the 50G and 90G numbering. Confirm the exact current module and its fit with the specialist before ordering.

What do you send CPBS to quote 50G or 90G batteries?

Six items: the number as written, the cell count, industrial or rail, the arrangement, the application and the ship to location. Those identify the product, confirm the count and price the freight in one pass.

  1. The number as written on the RFQ, label or submittal, such as 6-90G11 or 50G-07.
  2. The total cell count for the string or the project.
  3. Industrial or rail, which sets the product line.
  4. The arrangement, such as the number of stacks and modules high.
  5. The application, such as telecom, utility switchgear, solar or rail signal.
  6. The ship to location, so freight and lead time are quoted with the battery.

A photo of a label and one of the full string answer most follow up questions before they are asked.
